About Laxmanphal - Lakshman phal - soursop - graviola


The English name of Laxman phal (also spelt as Lakshmana phal) is Sour sop. It is originally from tropical South America. It belongs custard apple (sitaphal) family.

Other names for sour sop


Botanical name : Annona muricata Linn (Annona macrocarpa Wercklé)
English : Soursop
Hindi : Lakshman phal
Sanskrit: Lakshmanaphala
Malayalam : mullaatha (meaning thorny custard apple), Mullan chakka, Lakshmanapazam, Aathakka pazham
Spanish – guanabana
Portuguese – graviola
Philippines, it is called guyabano
Malaysia - it is known as durian belanda

Using sour sop - graviola

The raw and ripe fruit, leaves, seeds, bark, root are used. The fruits contains vitamin C, B1, B2.

Medicinal uses of sour sop - graviola

Sour sop has many medicinal properties and is in high demand for that. It is used in the treatment of cancer, hemorrhoids, liver ailments, ulcers, eczema, rheumatism, lumbago, dysentery.
It is useful in constipation. It strengthens bones, improves immune system, and helps to avoid infections.

Availability of Laxmanphal - Lakshman phal - soursop - graviola

It is available in Malaysia, Philippines. Extracts are available online.

In India, it is grown in Kerala. It is also available in Manglore, Udupi in Karnataka. But I do not have specific address to give you. I had visited Tata cancer hospital for my uncle's treatment.

There the junior dr suggested us to to try laxman phal fruit & leaves along with chemo for faster recovery.

We searched all over but could not find any reliable fruit supplier. One Ayurvedic center in Matunga then provided us wid leaves & fruits as well.
the dr over their guided us well & suggested few other ayurvedic herbs.
My uncle suffering from mouth cancer is still alive & doing well...the dr then explained us that if ayurvedic herbs are used along with laxman phal in any type of cancer then it gives positive results within few weeks.
over past few months we have sent so many patients from tata cancer hospital to the ayurvedic dr in matunga. we even requested the tata dr to them as well, but they refused saying they cannot allow this type of treatment.
the centers name is gayatri ayurved. You can search on goggle for that. there are so many good traditional herbs in India that we can use lke curcumin or haldi, silver bhasma for cancer treatment but common people don't know about them & big doctors don't recommend them because they fear for loss of money.

Most people after having heard of the cancer-fighting benefits of this great fruit think that if they have cancer, they can eat this fruit in over-dosages everyday and cure cancer completely. Now, I am talking to the majority here.

No doubt, this fruit is great for killing cancer cells, but so is lemon, garlic, baking soda, exercise, sleep, sunlight, Vitamins etc.
So, just because lemon is cancer-fighting, we cannot cure cancer by consuming lemon & its juice everyday !

DOSAGE OF Laxman Phal for cancer?

It is seen that not only the fruit but also the stem and leaves are used as medicine. It is also said that leaves and stem have greater effect than the fruit. Whatever, it be, the dosage that should be given to a human and also for pets is not forthcoming from anyone. Will you please enlighten the name of person (Vet/Homeopath/Ayurvddic Practitioner) who can prescribe the dosage.

Why some one (a Bangalore Nursery)call it as a Ravan phal because it is having thorn? The plant is also available in Bangalore.
