This masala majjige, spicy buttermilk recipe from Karnataka is very easy to make.
There is no cooking involved. It is very healthy and is made with fresh spices such as ginger, green chili, garlic etc.
It is a great cooling drink for the hot summer days.

How to make masala majjige - spicy buttermilk
List of ingredients and the quantity to make 2 glasses of masala majjige
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1 1/2 cups water, preferably chilled
salt - 1/8 tsp or according to taste
ginger paste or grated fine - 1/4 tsp
green chili paste(optional) - 1/8 tsp
coriander/dhania/cilantro - a few leaves
ice cubes optional - 5-6
Preparation to do before cooking -
Chop finely the coriander leaves
Step by step making instructions -
Add all the ingredients to your blender and blend it together for a few seconds.
You may also use a hand held blender or a whisk or a traditional mathani(wooden or metal whisk) to churn this for a few seconds till everything is blended well.
Serving suggestions
If you wish you may strain the blended mix if you do not like the bits of garlic, ginger, coriender etc.
I never strain majjige as I like the bits and pieces of the fresh spices.
What variations can you make with this recipe?
You may sprinkle a little jeera/ cumin seed powder.
You can add some crushed garlic if you like.
Add a few pieces of raw onion.
